A couple weeks ago, Chloe and I visited an elderly home and she got to be a therapy dog for a day! You see I was visiting my grandmother during new years and her friend that lives nearby in an elderly home met Chloe during Thanksgiving of 2010. Ever since, she has asked when I would be able to visit so that I could bring Chloe to “show her off” to her friends in the home. Even though Chloe is not an official therapy dog, this woman made the necessary preparations/arrangements so that I would be able to bring my dog.
We walked through the side entrance and met my grandmothers friend in the main entryway, who was waiting for us and very excited to see Chloe again! She informed us that there was a gathering in one of the “group rooms” and that I would be allowed to bring Chloe to the seated elderly attendees. So we made our way into the room and it took a second or two for people to realize Chloe only had three legs! And as per usual, people were wondering what happened to her leg, whether it was an accident or something else. People were glad to find out that she is a cancer survivor and has been for the last year and a half (Hoppy 1.5 yr ampuvesary to Chloe!).
Chloe loved all the attention she got, while we circled around the room, her tail practically wagging her body the whole way (which is why she is nearly always blurry in the pictures!) She thumped a couple people with her tail and they remarked at how strong it was. Some even made the comment that her tail seemed like a fourth leg (which it practically is for balance). It was great being able to have a positive impact on people’s lives since they loved seeing a happy, healthy, three legged cancer survivor.
I am so glad that we had this opportunity and I will be sure to go back and visit with Chloe again when I have a break from school. Hoppy new year and we encourage you to do something to also give back in 2012!
Hoppy December everyone! So here in central cal, Chloe and I got our tidepooling on yesterday evening after my last class of the semester (yay!) And we got to see the awesome sunset over the ocean! Here is a picture of Chloe exploring the beach!
And a video of her tidepooling! Note her interest in the mussels…
Sunset!
So we have discovered a mouse in our midst! Time to delcare war on the mice!!!
So far so good, but we can’t let it up! Baited traps with peanut butter will stay in “known” places of scurrying. Plus holes have been plugged with steel wool, chew on that!!!
