Chloe’s hair is starting to grow to a more noticeable length, yay, but its not growing evenly. It’s pretty funny actually because there is a 1″ line of lightly tan hair growing between her still nearly bald amp and her unshaved fur. I tried to take a picture of these “stripes” she now has, but even in the best lighting it is hard to see. So instead I have a funny picture of her pre amp!
As I am writing this, Chloe has decided that the best place to be is under my legs, up against the couch, with her head on my feet. Glad its not in my lap this time… So no grand plans for today or anything, just the usual routine plus a visit from my grandma! She has been a great support through all this (and all my immediate family and close friends) and I think she will be surprised at how well Chloe is doing!
Last night I managed to snag a picture of Chloe sleeping one of our 2’x2′ leather couch cushions (with blanket covering it) because she was just too cute. She kept looking like she wanted to be on the couch with me because the “grass is always greener on the other side”, so I took a couch cushion square off, covered it in a blanket and let her curl up on it. That definitely satisfied her.
Anyway, so I am going to sound like a broken record at this point when I tell you that Chloe is still doing great! We decided that both she and our other dog Rocket were missing each other alot, so we had a brief reunion for the two of them in the grassy backyard. Because they do like to play, we limited their time together because Chloe is still getting used to the back leg. She only stumbled a couple times, but got right back up like it was no big deal. They both enjoyed their reunion as short as it was. We even let Chloe drink from her favorite toy the hose, though careful not to get her all wet since she still has staples. Chloe is resting again in the living room, whining once in a while to go back outside…
And today I ordered a Ruff Wear Harness! This way it should arrive right around the time she gets her staples out so she can start using it when the vet gives her the OK. We got her a red one because she has red REI dog backpacking boots from when Chloe, my dad and I went on a back packing trip a few years back. She will be a stylin’ girl!
First I would like to thank everyone who gave me great advice in the forums regarding my concerns as stated in the previous post. Less for me to worry about now…Anyway, onto more exciting news! Today is Chloe’s one week ampuversery. I am happy to report that she is still doing great: eating, pooping and drinking lots of water regularly. She is also alert, has good energy (but still resting most of the day even though all she wants to do is play/explore outside), wiggles her booty whenever a human family member comes home, and is getting up/sitting down with more ease. Chloe hasn’t needed pain meds for the last few days which is good because it made her drool more than usual (maybe numbed mouth a little) and suppressed her appetite the first few days she was on them.
It seems that having a three legged dog has allowed Chloe and I to meet and talk to more of my neighbors than ever before. This happens on almost a daily basis while taking her on short bathroom outings. I have had conversations with at least 4 people I have never met and have talked to 3 other neighbors I know pretty well, all wanting to know about Chloe. I think its good attention/ego boost for her since she always loves to have people pet her and they always say how beautiful she looks, how sweet she is, or how she acts like a regular dog even though she had the surgery recently. Guess she is a popular girl now! I am more convinced than ever that my blog tag line “Being 4 legged is so overrated…” is definitely true in my experience with her in the last 7 days. Just one more week till the staples come out!
