Being 4-legged is so overrated…

A couple weeks ago, Chloe and I visited an elderly home and she got to be a therapy dog for a day!  You see I was visiting my grandmother during new years and her friend that lives nearby in an elderly home met Chloe during Thanksgiving of 2010.   Ever since, she has asked when I would be able to visit so that I could bring Chloe to “show her off” to her friends in the home.  Even though Chloe is not an official therapy dog, this woman made the necessary preparations/arrangements so that I would be able to bring my dog.

We walked through the side entrance and met my grandmothers friend in the main entryway, who was waiting for us and very excited to see Chloe again! She informed us that there was a gathering in one of the “group rooms” and that I would be allowed to bring Chloe to the seated elderly attendees.  So we made our way into the room and it took a second or two for people to realize Chloe only had three legs! And as per usual, people were wondering what happened to her leg, whether it was an accident or something else.  People were glad to find out that she is a cancer survivor and has been for the last year and a half (Hoppy 1.5 yr ampuvesary to Chloe!).

Chloe loved all the attention she got, while we circled around the room, her tail practically wagging her body the whole way (which is why she is nearly always blurry in the pictures!)  She thumped a couple people with her tail and they remarked at how strong it was.  Some even made the comment that her tail seemed like a fourth leg (which it practically is for balance).  It was great being able to have a positive impact on people’s lives since they loved seeing a happy, healthy, three legged cancer survivor.

I am so glad that we had this opportunity and I will be sure to go back and visit with Chloe again when I have a break from school.  Hoppy new year and we encourage you to do something to also give back in 2012!

Loved seeing the pictures. What good work Chloe’s done. Ruby & I are a certified Therapy Pet team mainly visiting convalescent homes over the last 5 years. Now that Ruby’s become a tripawd, once’s she’s ready, I’m hoping we might find a way to do some visits with disabled kids. Our tripwads have a lot to give!

Loved the pix . . . not sure who looked happier, the old folks or Chloe. Chloe did very good work! Ruby and I have been a certified Therapy Pet team over the last 6 years. Now that she’s a tripawd (4 weeks today)I’m hoping we find a way to work with disabled kids, once she’s up to going “back to work”. Our tripawds have so much to give!
