Being 4-legged is so overrated…

This is the first update since Chloe had her 3 week ampuversary because I just started grad school (almost done with the first week) and because Chloe continues to do well during her post “critical 2 week recovery” period. So, here are a few compiled stories from the past week!

Completion of the beach walk! Last Friday my dad sneakily decided to take Chloe (and her sister Rocket) all the way down the humongous hill that led to the beach because he had determined that she had enough energy to go all the way and back. And she did! However, I discovered this fact when my dad sent me a picture text with the dogs on the block corner that was right across the street from the beach.  To be honest I was a bit concerned, but my dad called me later to tell me that Chloe was a trooper because she had tension on the leash the WHOLE time and still had energy after they got home. My dad also came to the conclusion that our favorite beach walk is probably the maximum she should do since she does have to work harder than her 4 legged counterpart Rocket. I was happy to hear that he came to that conclusion on his own because I had read that since tripawds work so much harder, 1-2 mi is about all they should do.  He also informed me that the hill on the 1.5 mi roundtrip beach walk was 0.3 mi (0.6mi down and up) and had 130 feet of elevation gain in that distance. Yes, I have done sets of running up/down that hill and let me tell you it is one LONG hill…. And did I mention she managed to get her leash tangled around her only back leg?

Chloe's fur is growing in!

Signed up for Los Gatos K9 Cancer Walk: Last Saturday Chloe and I signed up to participate in this walk to celebrate her pawsome recovery and in memory of our dog Bonnie who lost her battle to lymphoma. Will walk for any of your dogs past or present by writing the name of your beloved friend on the back of our shirt if you like! Please leave a comment with their name and see post below for details. So far we have 20 dog names (tripawds and siblings alike who have had cancer) and see the menu on the right to see photos of the shirt construction if you haven’t already seen it in the forums! (under los gatos walk). No need to repost name here if you have already given it to me in the forums!!

Happy 1 Month Ampuversary Chloe!! That’s so awesome that you were able to walk to the beach and climb those hills. See, your mom didn’t need to worry about you afterall. And just think how much stronger you’ll be when you do the big walk for all of your tripawd friends. Here’s to many, many more ampuversaries and walks to the beach!

I know Chloe says thanks and so do I! You are right that I didn’t need to worry… Alrighty, now that I am done running errands I am going to catch up on your blog and watch the videos you recommended! It will help me capture the “essence” of Mackenzie.

Sounds like Chloe’s grandpa is really smart about how far to walk. Lots of folks don’t even consider the distance like he did. Wonderful that she made it. These are the times when things like leash pulling are reasons to celebrate!

Happy 1 month (plus) ampuversary, Chloe! Sorry we’re late sending well wishes – I’m just catching up after a summer hiatus with my daughters and dogs! Holly Jolly loves to walk more than just about anything else in the world (ok – maybe not more than cheese), so we’re so glad to hear that Chloe is doing such an amazing beach walk with your dad! 🙂
    Hugs,
    Holly, Zuzu and Susan

Thanks and I appreciate you taking the time to read my blog about Chloe! Chloe also loves going for walks! That was her incentive to be mobile again and probably why she has done so well 🙂
